Why is an oil change important?

An oil change is a very important regular service to have done to your vehicle. There are 2 main types of oil that your vehicle can take, conventional or synthetic. Our technicians know which oil is best for your vehicle based on the make and model of your car. Now, why is an oil change important? Well there are a number of reasons. One being that the oil can turn to a sludge substance. This is very bad to be running through your engine because it will decrease the life of your engine. Probably the most important is that your vehicle needs oil to keep a lot of the components in your engine working properly.

Here at Jerry Noonan’s Auto Center, we recommend that if your vehicle takes conventional oil that you come in for an oil change every 3,000 miles or 3 months. And for a synthetic oil change, we recommend it should be done every 5,000 miles or 6 months.

What do my brakes do?

Here at Jerry Noonan’s Auto Center, we take “brakes” seriously, automotive brakes that is. The braking system in your vehicle allows you the ability to control your car for safer driving conditions. It consists of various components arranged in such a way (master cylinder, calipers, pads, rotors, brake drums or discs, etc) that converts your vehicle’s kinetic energy (which is motion) into heat energy by using the force of friction to slow it down or stop it.

Tip Tuesday: Staying Hopeful

In light of all that is going on in the world right now, there are still good people doing good things. A fellow high school graduate of mine has created some hope in the lives of people in Durham, North Carolina. She has created a shopping system where if you are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19 and need groceries, you can have someone do this task for you. Our Effort to Flatten the Curve

To our Loyal Customer and Friends:

How is a tire repaired?

Tire repair is something that we handle a lot here at Jerry Noonan’s Auto Center. Throughout all seasons, tires get punctured from potholes, curbs, and debris found on the road. When a customer comes in with a punctured tire, we will assess it and make sure it can be repaired. In some cases, we experience vehicles that come in with a run flat tire, which cannot be repaired due to manufacturer guidelines. There are also situations that depending on where the puncture is, or if the vehicle was driven too long with the flat tire that the tire may need to be replaced.  We can order a replacement tire for your vehicle and have it all ready for you by the next day!

Now the question is how is a punctured tire repaired? Well, here at Jerry Noonan’s Auto Center, we patch tires. Patching a tire is a permanent fix to the hole from the inside of the tire, insuring your tire will last you it’s whole life. Our technicians will repair the tire and send you on your way. When should I get my oil changed?

Oil changes are a very important vehicle maintenance that needs to be done on a regular basis. The type of oil your vehicle requires dictates how long you can go in between oil changes. Most modern vehicles take synthetic oil or a synthetic blend. Another type of oil is conventional. Here at Jerry Noonan’s Auto Center, for a synthetic oil change, we recommend it should be done every 5,000 miles or 6 months. And for a conventional oil change, we recommend it should be done every 3,000 miles or 3 months.

When you come in for your appointment we will make sure that you are going to get the proper oil that your vehicle calls for. During your oil change visit, we also perform a complimentary safety inspection. Our safety inspection is a basic look at how your vehicle is doing overall. Our technicians will check your wiper blades, washer fluid, tire pressure, and so many other items. If you are getting a tire rotation during this service (which we recommend every 6,000 miles) the technician will also check your brakes.

Tip Tuesday: Did you know - We do NJ State Inspections?

Did you know that we did New Jersey State inspections? Here at Jerry Noonan’s Auto Center, we are fully licensed by the state of NJ to perform vehicle inspections and re-inspections. According to state law, vehicles have to be inspected every two years. However, a new vehicle is given a five year inspection. We also do emission repairs in the event that your vehicle fails.

Emission issues can be as simple as needing to tighten your gas cap or as complex as replacing the evaporative lines. We had a vehicle that came in a few weeks ago that required a huge evaporative repair. This customer had an inspection done at the DMV and failed. They then came to us for the evaporative repairs. The first thing that was done is a test to see what components could be causing the issues. After the test was completed, the results came back with an EVAP leak, an issue with the O2 sensor, and an issue with the idle. Our technician on the job replaced the evaporative lines as they were worn from age. These lines are made from rubber and harden over time. After the lines were replaced, the vehicle was re-tested and all the issues were resolved.
